Alum Rock Union School District participates in California's Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) to help expand access to school-based behavioral health services for students.
What is the CYBHI?
Under California’s CYBHI program, school districts can seek reimbursement from health insurance plans—including Medi-Cal and private insurers—for physical, mental, and social-emotional services provided to students during the school day. This state initiative helps us expand campus resources and keep care easily accessible for every student.
What families should know
No Out-of-Pocket Costs. No Impact on Coverage.
We understand parents may have questions about sharing insurance details. Here is what you need to know:
- Zero Cost to You: You will never receive a bill, co-pay, or deductible for school-based services.
- Coverage Protected: CYBHI services do not affect your family’s insurance premiums, count toward deductibles, or limit your private healthcare outside of school.
- IEP Services Preserved: If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), CYBHI billing will not alter or disrupt their existing special education services.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Your family’s privacy is protected under federal and state law, including FERPA and HIPAA.
- Data Shared: To process reimbursements, the district only shares essential details: student name, date of birth, insurance ID, service date, and service type.
- Immigration Status: We do not collect information regarding immigration status. It has no bearing on a student's ability to receive care.
