Interpretation and Translation Services

The Alum Rock Union School District is committed to increasing participation of all stakeholders in alignment with our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals and priorities. In order to achieve that effort, the State and Federal Programs Department provides district-wide translation and interpretation services. Two full-time Spanish translators/interpreters, as well as school-based community liaisons, address the language needs of our parents and community at-large. For Vietnamese and all other languages, we have additional support from contractors and a language agency.

Our goal is to ensure effective and reciprocal communication that enables parents to have fair and equal decision-making in their children’s education, development, and well-being. Our interpreters provide services at District Board Meetings, District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC), District Advisory Committee (DAC), Superintendent Parent Advisory Resource Council (SPARC), Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and district-wide events, such as Parent University and Back to District Night. Translation services are offered for SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium), CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress), CELDT (California English Language Development Test), IEP notifications, letters, reports, and all other district generated communications. One of our main projects is the translation of the Local Control and Accountability Plan.

Current federal and state requirements mandate that school districts in California provide services and access that promote meaningful parent involvement. These requirements include the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), and the California Department of Education Code 48985.
