Hello! I am Mr. Aaron Apilado and I have been at teaching at ARUSD for the past four years. I went to California State University East Bay and graduated with a Bachelor's in Music in 2014. I received my teaching credential from the same university in 2016 and completed a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2018. I love playing various instruments, watching action movies and playing video games as hobbies. I teach 4th-8th grade Band and 4th-5th grade Classroom Music at Hubbard Media Arts Academy.

Mr. Flores discovered his love and passion for music at an early age. In 1992 he began playing drums and percussion at the Alum Rock elementary school Linda Vista and continued to play in middle school where he joined the Alum Rock Alumni Jazz band. In high school, inspired by his own family’s musical roots, Louie began to join and form bands of his own.
Mr Flores has traveled and performed internationally, performing with various local musicians. In 2007 he studied latin percussion in Havana Cuba. While in Havana, Mr. Flores began and completed a Bachelors in music from California State East Bay.
Currently, he is band director at Ocala Steam Academy, Ryan Steam Academy, and co assistant for the Alum Rock Jazz Band. Outside of school you can catch Mr. Flores performing locally with his current band Given to Fly.
Mr. Fitzhugh loves teaching music in the Alum Rock School District. So much, in fact, that he has been at it for more than 15 years! He received a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Music (majoring in Music Education), both from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. He currently teaches band and piano. Mr. Fitzhugh's interests include backpacking, playing in music groups around the bay area, and movies.
Ms. Lozano is a native from San Jose and a product of Alum Rock District. Her love for music started at Cureton Elementary and continued at Joseph George Middle School and Overfelt High School. As she attended West Valley College, she knew she wanted to teach music and decided to move to Texas and attend Dallas Baptist University where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Music. When she moved back to San Jose, she attended San Jose State University and received her teaching credential.
Ms. Lozano has taught 6 years in Alum Rock District with her first year being at Aptitud Academy and the last 5 years at Sheppard Middle School and Painter Elementary. She is currently teaching Elementary and Middle School Band.
Aside from music, Ms. Lozano loves to loom knit, travel, and having quality time with the ones she loves.
Mrs. Magsino has been teaching music in Alum Rock since 2003. Originally from Hawaii, she attended college at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Master of Arts in Teaching. She taught middle school band for a year in Oregon before moving to California to join the Alum Rock family.
She taught for 6 years as the Band Director at Joseph George Middle School where she founded and lead our district’s Honor Band. She was also part of the planning committee to institute the VAPA cluster program at four of our district’s schools.
Currently, Mrs. Magsino is teaching elementary band and music prep classes in the district. Along with several other music teachers, she is instituting the school districts first piano labs in the music prep classes. She is also the chairperson for our Alum Rock District Band Festival which comprises of all the middle school bands coming together to perform for each other and judges from around the county.
Aside from teaching music, Mrs. Magsino loves playing music, doing arts and crafts projects, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Miss. Ordaz is the band director at Joseph George Middle School and Cureton Elementary School, and has been teaching with Alum Rock since 2015. She attended California State University East Bay in Hayward for her BA in Music (2014) and Single Subject Teaching Credential (2015). Each summer she dedicates a portion of her time to the Alum Rock Summer Music Camp and the La Honda Music Camp. When she is not teaching or directing bands, she plays in the Chabot Wind Symphony in Hayward. She began playing flute at age 9 in 2000, and over the years self taught herself piano, guitar, and alto saxophone. In her spare time she enjoys spending time drawing, painting, and playing video games.
Mr. Plascencia is a San Jose Ca native and has been involved in music all of his life. He began his musical training in the 6th grade where he joined his schools beginning band as a trombonist. At the same time, he has been playing Mariachi music for over 20 years. Mr. Plascencia is a recent graduate of San Jose State University, where he earned his BM in music composition and education. He studied with renowned composers Pablo Furman and Brian Belet. In May 2018 Mr. Plascencia’s piece, “Cacophony of Voices,” was premiered by the San Jose Chamber Orchestra as the winner of the Allen Strange Memorial Composition Competition.
Aside from teaching at the Alum Rock School District, Mr. Plascencia continues to compose for a variety of ensembles and continues to teach Mariachi and compostion as part of his private music studio. He lives with his wife and two children who are also beginning their own musical experience.
Born in Chicago, Mr. Posner grew up in San José where he played in the Alum Rock School District Jazz Band and the William C. Overfelt High School Band. After attending California State University Hayward, he went to the University of North Texas for graduate work in Jazz Studies.
An accomplished musician, Mr. Posner has studied trombone with Oliver Marr, Robert Szabo, Dave Ridge, Dave Gregoric, Vern Kagerice, and Tony Baker. Among the music groups he has played with in the Bay Area are the Vern Brooks Latin Jazz Band, the Villages Dance Band, the San José State Big World Jazz Band, and the Foothill Orchestra (now the Silicon Valley Symphony).
Mr. Posner began his career as a teacher in the Alum Rock School District in 2010. Before then he had worked as a low brass instructor with the Alum Rock Jazz Band, taught band at several Catholic schools in the area, and taught private lessons. He is excited to continue this year as an Associate Director with the Alum Rock Jazz Band as well as teacher beginning and intermediate band at San Antonio and L.U.C.H.A schools.
Mr. Powell grew up in San Jose attending Santa Teresa High School and started taking guitar lessons at Music Village back in 1985 and later at Showcase Music Institute (Guitar Showcase) studying rock guitar. He then studied jazz and classical guitar while receiving his BA in Music from UC Santa Cruz. After working for several months as a classroom music teacher in Cupertino, Mr. Powell studied music education and received his teaching credential from San Jose State University. He has taught band and classroom music for over twenty years in Morgan Hill, Belmont, and San Jose, and always encourages students to perform to the best of their abilities. Making classroom music engaging and fun while still covering state standards and making each instrumental ensemble sound their best is his continuing goal. When he’s not teaching he enjoys writing video game soundtracks, mountain biking, and going to auto races.
Mr. Santiago is a native of San Jose who attended the k-12 schools in Alum Union School District and East Side Union High School District. He learned the art of Jazz, and Classical music while in school at ARUSD and ESUHSD.
As part of continuing his music education in college, Mr. Santiago has performed with the San Jose State Spartan Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Orchestra, as well as the California State University Hayward (East Bay) Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and even helped found the CSUH trombone Ensemble. Because of his participation in instrumental music education, Mr. Santiago was given multiple opportunities to travel and visited different areas of the world such as Hawaii, France, Switzerland, and Italy. Also, some of his hobbies include traveling, movies, board and video games, hiking, and camping.
Mr. Santiago is the Director of Instrumental Music at Adelante Dual-Language Academy, a K-8 Spanish Immersion school at ARUSD. He is in his 7th year and the music program at Adelante has shown considerable growth expanding from 80 students in his first year in 2013, to nearly surpassing 150 students in 2019!
Veronica Talton is entering her second year in the Alum Rock Union School District and teaches music at Joseph George Middle and Lyndale Elementary. With over twenty five years of experience as an educator, she specializes in general music, choir, musical theater and piano. Ms. Talton has served as a site administrator for the Adventures In Writing summer arts camp and is an active member of the Tabia African American Theatre Ensemble. In her spare time, she enjoys songwriting, reading and traveling. Developing creativity in youth and advocating for the underprivileged are her passions.
Mr. Vega in an Alum Rock Alumni who attended San Antonio Elementary School, Sheppard Middle School and Lee Mathson Middle School. He is currently teaching Instrumental Music at Linda Vista Elementary, Piano/Guitar Lab and Drumline at Joseph George Middle School, and is also an Associate Director of the Alum Rock Jazz Band. The Jazz band is an after school ensemble that is comprised of musicians from throughout the School District. As a lifelong East San Jose resident, Benjamin is passionate about music and the enrichment of his community.
