Eligibility

Access to special education programs and services are initiated through the Student Success Team (SST). The SST is a general education process that ensures a variety of modifications or accommodations, prevention and early intervention strategies are utilized prior to referring a student for a special education evaluation.

When a student has been referred for a special education evaluation, an assessment can only be completed with parental consent. After the assessment is completed, an Individual Education Program (IEP) meeting will be held to determine whether or not the student is eligible and in need of specialized services. Students may be found eligible in one of the following categories:

  • Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)
  • Speech and Language Impairment (SLI)
  • Deaf/Blind (DB)
  • Visual Impairment (VI)
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Deafness
  • Hard of Hearing (HH)
  • Autism (AUT)
  • Intellectual Disability (ID)
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED)
  • Other Health Impairment (OH)
  • Orthopedic Impairment (OI)
  • Multiple Disability (MD)
